BIO
Olia Breva discovered her artist vision in her early childhood. At 8, she started her studies in an art club where one of her works was selected for the exhibition in Japan, and later entered an art school which she successfully finished 6 years later. Despite her calling for the art sphere, Olia got a Master’s Degree in Economics.

Yet her innate passion has always pulled her back to the artist pathway: Olia continued mastering her creative skills in the studios of academic artists, taking classes and practicing. She tries herself in various formats: painting, graphics, interior design, and architectural solutions.

Olia Breva is constantly evolving as an artist believing that self-development is the key quality for all creative professions. You can see her as an artist whose life is tightly connected with art, thirst for self-expression and constant search for forms and meanings.

Olia Breva
Every artist constructs their own mythology, which serves as a coordinate system in their relationship with the world, revealing the emergence of their emotions, life circumstances, ideas and goals. This interaction resonates with the environment, giving rise to a synergy between the artist and the viewer.

Olia Breva creates her own mythology exploring the theme of existential vulnerability in modern society, a significant philosophical challenge of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Artist statement
Olia Breva’s artworks encompasses Expressionism movement, ranging from Abstract expressionism to Expressionistic realism and Action Painting, which allow her to interpret human emotions to the fullest extent, from trauma to joy, sometimes unconscious.

Stylistically she finds affinity with the origins of the movement drawing inspiration from artists such as Helen de Kooning (USA, 1918−1989) and Grace Hartigan (USA, 1922−2008), as well to her generation contemporaries — for example Derek Stefanuk (Canada, born in 1980).
WORKS
SERIES: «Woman: essence»
In the series “Woman: Essence” Olia distorts the lines and the space and “dissolves” the images of women faces into the field of the canvas. This transforms them into signs and symbols, approaching them to the themes of fate, cosmos, intersecting them with the Unknown Woman (by Ivan Kramskoy), the pagan ancient and Foremother or a Spring (by Sandro Botticelli) which symbolizes the beginning of the world and birth. It is not by chance that some of the images in this series are called “Goddess's Contemplations.».

«By this series I cogitate on a contemporary woman focusing particularly on the intangible and spiritual elements that shape her existence. Through my vivid paintings and graphic reflections, I draw upon personal observations, narrating the chronicles of her journey through the lens of my own perspective and individual experiences. The theme of womanhood is inexhaustible, and I could devote a lifetime to expressing it through my art.»

SERIES: «The end is at hand, and you’ll be confused…»
The series “The end is at hand and you'll be confused…” bears resemblance to Michelangelo's fresco “The Creation of Adam.” Whose hands are these and what are they doing? Perhaps they are the “Hands of Fate,” or simply the hands of a person ready to accept whatever the Universe offers? In reality, she painted the series from life, depicting her own hands - the hands of an artist, a creator, reminding us that humans are the makers of their own destiny.

«The finality of life represents a personal point of no return for each individual. It is crucial to find one's true path while still alive and capable of making changes. This series is a contemplation of an idea that evokes how rationalism (rational ideas, desires) can sometimes induce internal conflicts, confusion, and to disorder, desctuct, ‘crease’ one's soul and identity. We go through this path of inner contradictions, and only when we release the situation, entrusting it to a higher power, God, does that which is true and becomes defined and appeared, allowing us to order in right way, ‘reconstruct’ our authenticity and to ‘straighten up.».
