Reality often reveals more than what we initially perceive, leaving it open to interpretation. Something new can unexpectedly emerge from within it. Examining details brings forth new interpretations. It is precisely this reality that inspires the artist. Observing objects, events, and people evokes emotions and provides material for exploring new dimensions in art.
This exhibition features a series by Aram Parunakyan titled SILENCE OF NOISE, in which silent passengers are captured in random moments during their journeys on public transportation, amidst the city’s noise and the hum of everyday life. The theme revolves around the road — a journey through life and time, not just through space — where each passenger is left to themselves while simultaneously being part of the collective noise, the “intersound” of the surrounding world. They may contemplate themselves, find themselves lost in thought, or be touched by the external world breaking through via rain-splattered or palm-smudged bus windows. In this series, the depicted space dissolves, blurring the boundaries between the internal and external worlds.
Aram Parunakyan captures both the intimacy and solitude of individuals, their vulnerability, and their interaction with their surroundings. Many viewers of this series have remarked that they see themselves reflected in one of the pieces. This phenomenon remains inexplicable to the artist, yet the art has taken its own direction. In this series, the ambiguous, ‘blurred’ reality dictated a shift from the hyperrealism Parunakyan is known for, towards impressionism.
The artist shares his perspective on the world: “By observing reality, I seek to uncover the hidden meanings within it and strive for harmony. I am unequivocally opposed to living in times of military conflict, which have also affected my homeland, as war disrupts my emotional and mental equilibrium, making it difficult to focus on my work. As an artist, I am drawn to exploring the imbalance in reality, but it is essential to maintain a sense of harmony in the world.”
