Women group exhibition
March 15 — April 07, 2024
ArtKvartal, Pushkin 4, Yerevan
Love, self-discovery, motherhood, emigration, studying at a new institution or in another country, processing the experience of war and fearing another, depression, resistance, hope, joy, and anxiety — this is the present moment. The themes preoccupying the RIGHT ABOUT NOW exhibition participants are united by the current moment.
What kind of time is this? Each of the sixteen participants offers their own answer and so do the viewers: it may be a time of change, challenges, and discoveries, or a time of oblivion and apathy; a time to "live your best life" or a time when there's "no time for fun." Through the prism of art projects, the RIGHT ABOUT NOW exhibition explores a reality where opposite experiences, emotions, and events coexist simultaneously.
Both life and the creative process — whether it's creating an artwork or curating an exhibition — are unpredictable. When the future is uncertain, trust and genuine interest in the process become the only reliable strategies, including for art curators.
The RIGHT ABOUT NOW exhibition reveals the artistic stance of each participant. An artist's most pressing theme or emotion is expressed through an unfamiliar medium or a new exhibition format. The exhibition presents not only new works but also installations and objects created specifically for the gallery space.
Choosing an unconventional exhibition format presents a challenge for the artist, especially when addressing personal or sensitive life experiences. It also poses a risk for the curator, as the outcome is unpredictable, and the dialogue between the artworks depends on the evolving circumstances. However, courage, openness, a willingness to experiment, and presenting one's vision to the world have always accompanied creative achievements. By following the principle of trust and striving towards the unknown, the project participants once again demonstrate this in practice.
